Frank Mullaney, Wallpaper Saints

Catskill Art Space is proud to present Frank Mullaney’s Wallpaper Saints, a striking exhibition celebrating the life and vision of the late Livingston Manor and Manhattan-based artist. Inspired by the holy prayer cards of his Irish Catholic youth, Mullaney’s work explores the tension between religious iconography and queer identity. Through this series, he transforms childhood shame into a powerful exploration of "transcendence" and the erotic charge of sacred imagery.

The project features intimate portraits of gay and trans subjects, each set against unique backgrounds but united through nudity. Mullaney’s deliberate use of vulnerability serves to "put everyone on equal footing," stripping away protection to reveal the raw humanity of his sitters. His aesthetic, a blend of Hammer Studios horror-film atmosphere and formal training from the International Center of Photography, creates a space where the sacred and the profane meet.

A long-time resident of both NYC and the Catskills, Mullaney exhibited his work globally, from Mexico City to Provincetown. This exhibition serves as a poignant tribute to his career-long dedication to capturing the human spirit in its most honest, unprotected moments.
